The work of C . E . T . Individualized learning allows the pupils to progress at their own pace . It faces up to the reality that there are differences in the abilities , interests , natural talents and concentration spans of the learners . Individualized learning strategies are not alternatives to the search for equal educational opportunities . On the contrary , the two go together . Individualized learning seeks to offer equal educational opportunities to all , in the sense that all , regardless of individual talent or the lack of it , are entitled to a fair chance to develop themselves to the limits of their intellectual capacity . The observed fact is that many young people could be helped to ad vance well beyond what they thought they could reach . Individualized learning is not a loose , undisciplined system , with every child doing what he likes best . Far from it . Individualized learning is a highly structured system of education . The pupils are given clear assignments , but everyone proceeds at his own pace . In cooperation with the educators , C . E . T . prepares printed study guides for the pupils and worksheets for the educators . It also prepares technological aids , including educational games , audio-cassettes , film strips and a series of practice and evaluation programmes known as TOAM . In the schools that are equipped with TOAM computers , much of the drill and practice , the exact evaluation of the pupil's progress , the locating of areas of difficulties and the reporting to the teacher is done by the TOAM cQmputer . learning material . So far , material has been developed in reading comprehension for grades 1 to 3 ; in arithmetic and geometry for grades 1 to 6 ; in spelling for grades 1 to 6 ; and in Bible study for grades 1 and 2 . Other subjects are in preparation . Individualized learning can take many forms . Several schools and research institutes are evolving methods of individualized learning . Without wishing to detract from their efforts , I shall describe , more particularly , the work that is being done by C . E . T . merely because I have more familiarity with it than with other similar efforts .
