If education is to evolve towards a learning system , what will be its cost ? Although it is impossible to attempt cost estimates for a system that has , as yet , only been tried in pilot projects , I would like to point to some indicators . Individualized learning in the pilot projects in IIdevelopment areas" costs about as much as teaching by conventional methods . If it is adopted in more schools , economies of scale would come into play and would reduce costs . The proposed science and technology centres would call for substantial expenditure on construction and equipment for the proposed 100 to 150 centres . On the other hand , there would be savings on the present 500 laboratories in the intermediate and secondary schools . The proposed research centre would be a new cost item . Its operating cost , in the first years , may come to about $ 500 , 000 per annum . The pay of the educators would be substantially higher than at present , but there would only be a comparatively limited...
