The first tests carried out by the Army for individualized learning showed average achievement of 89 . 6 per cent ( against 79 . 2 per cent with conventional teaching ) . Only 13 per cent failed to reach 80 points out of 100 with individualized learning ( against 50 per cent with conventional teaching ) . The evaluations at schools have shown that in the first few years after the introduction of individualized learning , a number of the children were below the norms set for their class . This was predictable because all the pupils advanced at the level of their own ability . After a few years , the same children caught up and performed better than their counterparts in conventional classes . Furthermore , the pupils who had gone through individualized learning retained their knowledge better than the children in the conventional classes . These tests tell only part of the story .
