This research investigates the relationship between mutual identity and area interrelation ship . It was conducted in two develop ment towns ! Ma'alot and Beit She'an . Relations between Ma'alot and neighboring kibbutzim are limited, but Beit She'an is largely dependent upon kibbutzim in the area for employment . Residents of Ma'alot harbor strong feelings of hostility toward kibbutzim in their area and an angry unwillingness to cooperate with them in any way . In Beit She'an, the greater the measure of communalism, the more there is willing ness to cooperate with the kibbutzim .
