2021 - 1992 iv Political Parties in Israel, the local level, 5 and their membership patterns . 6 However, there has been no comprehensive, systematic study of all the parties represented in the Knesset in the past three decades . Were the 1992 elections a watershed in Israeli politics, which would justify our choosing them as the starting point for this book ? In some ways they clearly weren’t . The 1992 elections reflected the continued struggle within the two - bloc party system in which the Likud and right - wing and religious parties engaged in close competition with the Alignment / Labor Party and the left - wing parties . Most of the seats in the Knesset were won that year by longstanding parties with roots in the pre - state period ( only Tzomet, Moledet, Shas, the Democratic Arab Party, and Shinui, which won 21 seats altogether, were relatively new ) . The agenda in those elections was the same as it had been since 1967 ( though it had become more and more intense over the year...  To the book
