38 The Tomb of Pharaoh’s Daughter – a Reassessment Introduction The burial monument known as the Tomb of Pharaoh’s Daughter was hewn out of a rocky escarpment in the northern part of the village of Silwan, across from the City of David . This tomb is one of the most complete and distinctive monuments preserved from First Temple - period Jerusalem and the Land of Israel, and is the most prominent and extraordinary of all the funerary monuments of the nobility of the Kingdom of Judah in Silwan . The tomb is located at the northern end of the ancient necropolis of Silwan, with a view of the City of David, the Temple Mount and the Kidron Valley . More than 40 years ago, from 1968 to 1971, I had the privilege of taking part in a survey conducted by David Ussishkin in Silwan, during which the Tomb of Pharaoh’s Daughter was also examined .
