לראשונה נדרשה עצרת האו " ם לחלל החיצון ( outer space ) בהחלטה ( 1348 ( XIII מיום 13 בדצמבר , 1958 כשהקימה את הוועדה המיוחדת לשימוש בחלל החיצון בתנאי שלום ( .
