The baraita of the “ Thirteen Middot" at the beginning of the midrash , although present in all textual witnesses , does not belong to the original text . It presents the hermeneutical rules attributed to R . Yishmael , supplemented by additional materials . It seems to underline the special importance of this midrash for Leviticus that these rules of interpretation have been added here and not , for example , to Genesis Rabbah or at least to the mekhilta on Exodus if it should be a halakhic midrash . Two more sections also belong to the school of R . Yishmael , as is made clear – among other criteria – by their designation as mekhilta . The Mekhilta de-Milluim , or Mekhilta of the Consecration , comments on Leviticus 8 : 1-10 : 7 , the only narrative text found in Leviticus , and describes the priestly consecration of Aaron and his sons and their inaugural service during the dedication of the Tab...  To the book
